Faculty Coach

Steve is a leadership and faculty coach supporting clients to discover greater satisfaction, both personally and professionally. His purpose statement is “Serving individuals and teams to lead healthier, more purposeful lives.” He does this using a holistic approach to help clients develop “an ideal future state” that aligns their passions, skills, and interests for the greater good. Steve incorporates his values of trust, proactivity, positivity, and service in his coaching and believes the greatest gift you can provide another person is your attentive silence.

Steve’s clients refer to him as a partner in the coaching process who strikes a balance between being empathetic and holding others accountable. Steve coaches on a variety of topics including time and energy management, coaching employees, conflict management, and team development. He is also a firm believer that we must first take care of ourselves in order to adequately serve others. Therefore, he regularly works with clients to incorporate self-care strategies to be able to work in an optimal state.

Steve is a Senior Lecturer in the International Business & Management department at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and his academic interests include Human Resource Management, Leadership, and Team Dynamics. He is the recipient of the 2023 Constance and Rose Ganoe Memorial Award for Inspirational Teaching. Steve is also a Senior Consultant for Dering Consulting Group based in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania where he supports client needs through strategy, organizational development, training and coaching solutions.

Prior to teaching, Steve served as the associate vice president of human resources at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Before joining Dickinson, Steve worked for ten years as a human resource and change management consultant with clients across multiple industries including higher education.

Steve earned his doctoral degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Educational Leadership in Higher Education. He has more than 900 hours of coaching experience and holds the Professional Certified Coach (CPC) credential through the International Coach Federation (ICF). Steve completed his coach training through the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC). He earned the Senior Professional of Human Resource (SPHR) certification through the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). Steve has facilitated leadership and team development programs throughout the country and is a certified facilitator of DiSC, Crucial Conversations, Crucial Accountability, and The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
