Assistant Director of Student Activities

The Assistant Director of Student Activities has responsibility for advising the Student Activities Council, coordinating campus events, and coordinating student leadership opportunities. Oversee the Roush Campus Center, including event booking system, event set up and the student staff. They are a member of the Student Life staff team under the direction of the Vice President and the Dean of Students through the Director of Student Activities and Greek Life.

Essential Job Functions:

Advising

  • Serve as primary advisor to the Student Activities Council (SAC) and work closely with this group to plan and implement campus events;

Training and Development

  • Conduct leadership retreats and/or workshop for the Student Activities Council;
  • Coordinate all officer transitions for the Student Activities Council;
  • Coordinate campus leadership education opportunities, which may include emerging leaders seminars, general student leader training, and/or senior-level leadership advancement opportunities;
  • Train student workers for the Roush Campus Center;

Programs/Special Event Coordination

  • Plan and coordinate select Orientation and annual semester kickoff events;
  • Autonomously plan and implement annual Activities Expo, where Centre and community organizations promote activities and services;
  • Work with SAC to plan and implement campus movie series, bands, dances, comedians, novelties, Carnival, etc.;
  • Assist student leaders with the planning and coordination of Senior Week activities;
  • Negotiate, review, revise (as necessary) and sign contracts for campus programs;
  • Develop and provide diverse, developmentally-focused programs in collaboration with other campus offices and departments;
  • Support Student Activities and Greek Life functional area through advising and programming which supports the development of student leaders.

Supervision

  • Supervise part-time undergraduate program coordinators;
  • Supervise student workers for the Roush Campus Center;
  • Supervise booking system and event setup for Roush Campus Center;

Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Greek Affairs, Community Service and Residence Life offices in diverse programming and event activities;
  • Collaborative programming efforts with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Center for Career and Professional Development, Office of Religious Life, and other College offices and departments;
  • Demonstrate an appreciation for and sensitivity to a diverse academic community, fostering an inclusive environment for students, faculty, and staff from a variety of social, economic, cultural, ideological, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.

Assessment/Evaluation

  • Assess programming efforts of SAC, Roush Campus Center staff, and other activities within the office’s responsibilities to insure effective program development;

Event Staffing

  • Attend and monitor student sponsored events as assigned/needed to ensure programmatic success, participant safety, and facility security.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required. Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, Counseling, or related field, preferred;
  • Minimum of one to two years of experience in Student Activities and/or Student Union in a College/University setting,

Knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, organization skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks;
  • Willing to work flexible schedule, which will include evening and weekend hours as required to meet with student organizations and to facilitate activities;
  • Experience with Microsoft computer programs and other applications to create publicity/promotional materials.

Physical Requirements:

Limited pushing, pulling, lifting.  Lifting would not exceed 20 lbs. Mobility on campus necessary.
