Fire Science Faculty and Program Director

Vincennes University is seeking a passionate Full-Time Faculty member and Program Director to lead our Fire Science program. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the next generation of fire and emergency services professionals while being part of a supportive, collaborative culture.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

• Mentor students through hands-on training in classroom, lab, and clinical environments.

 

• Develop innovative curriculum aligned with industry best practices.

 

• Foster an inclusive learning atmosphere that celebrates diverse backgrounds.

 

• Collaborate with local fire departments and first responders.

 

• Engage in professional development to remain at the forefront of your field.

 

• Work collegially in an academic environment.

 

• Create a student-centered learning environment that fosters student success through effective classroom facilitation. Ensures program and course outcomes are maintained to meet the required workplace skill levels for graduates. Delivers meaningful and engaging instruction throughout the duration of courses.

 

• Remain knowledgeable about relevant techniques, technological advancements, and innovations applicable to the program. Incorporates engaging learning activities into courses.

 

• Advise students in the Fire Science Program, participate in departmental, divisional, and University committee work, Dual Credit, and participate in recruitment and retention activities.

 

• Active involvement in the Vincennes University assessment process, and familiarity with State and Federal guidelines.

 

• Work collegially in an academic environment; participate in College and program projects, events, and committee work, including advisory committee activities and

 

Required and Preferred Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Associate’s degree in a related field

 

• Certified as a Fire Instructor I, II, and III

 

• Certified as a Fire Fighter I/ II with certifications in Hazmat Awareness and Operations

 

• 5+ years firefighting experience

 

• Demonstrated skill in instructing diverse student populations

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree with 18+ credits in Fire Science.

 

• Additional certifications (EMS Primary Instructor, Hazmat, Arson Investigation, etc.).

 

• Higher education teaching/advising experience.
