Blazers Achieve Student Support Services is seeking candidates to coach and mentor underrepresented and diverse populations (e.g., low-income, first generation, students with disabilities, etc.) in order to be be academically and non-cognitively successful in order to increase retention and graduation of at-risk students.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Front line communication: Answer and assist; and direct other departmental calls and questions.
- Coaches and mentors students in need of strategies/services to enhance their academic success and maintains accurate student services.
- Recruits and conducts intake procedure with potential students at START VU and PreVUs (some are on Saturdays).
- Facilitates transitioning straegies from high school to postsecondary setting.
- Coordinates services with community agencies and other campus departments.
- Collaborates, develops, and instructs SSKL 006 (SSS University Experience) class.
- Demonstrates competency tutoring subjects via executive functioning strategies.
- Works as a collaborative team member.
- Participates and travels for professional development including TRIO Priority trainings.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in education, social work, or related field required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Work experience (i.e., minimum two years) providing educational/coaching/mentoring services to underrepresented populations (e.g., diverse cultural, ethnic, and economical background, students with disabilities) required.
- Executive function/soft skills (e.g., planning, organizing, time management, task initiation, etc.).
- Excellent written, verbal, and nonverbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
- Ability to maintain confidential information.
